2022 "B" RATED DISTRICT

Overview

We promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) in middle school courses to prepare students for our T-STEM-accredited high school program. We advocate for academic excellence with intellectual rigor in and out of the classroom.

Curriculum

The core curriculum focuses on science, engineering, mathematics, language arts, and social studies. Additional STEM classes are available as electives, and students may enroll in our Gateway to Technology (GTT) courses, which prepare them for the Project Lead the Way curriculum in high school.

GTT Course Offerings

Design and Modeling

Design and Modeling course is a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) course that provides middle school students with an introduction to the engineering design process. Students use industry-leading software to create 3D models and develop their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. They also learn about the engineering design process and apply it to real-world challenges.

Automation and Robotics

Automation and Robotics is a PLTW course that introduces students to the fundamental concepts of automation and robotics. Students learn how to design and program robots to perform specific tasks, and they also learn about the impact of automation and robotics on society and the workforce.

Energy and the Environment

Energy and the Environment is a PLTW course that focuses on the science behind renewable and nonrenewable energy sources. Students learn about the principles of energy transfer and conservation, as well as the environmental impact of energy production and consumption. They also develop an understanding of the technologies and policies related to energy and the environment.

Flight and Space

Flight and Space is a PLTW course that provides students with an introduction to the physics of flight and space exploration. Students learn about the principles of aerodynamics and propulsion, and they also study the history and current state of space exploration. They use industry-leading software to design and simulate aircraft and spacecraft and will learn how to analyze and interpret data to evaluate design performance.

College & Career Planning

Seventh grade students explore college and career pathways in the Career Portals course. Eighth grade students collaborate with the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Counselor to develop their ninth grade course schedule. This, coupled with college and career readiness counseling, prepares students for the Senior Capstone Internship and is the foundation for their college and career portfolio.
